2010 Year End Deals

Reaching Out 2011

Throughout the year of 2011, Southern Savings and Deals, along with other local bloggers will be collecting items for different organizations. Each month, we will try to focus on a different organization, so that by the end of 2011, we will have helped at least 12 different organizations in our community. At the beginning of every month, I will post information about the organization that we will be helping for that month, along with a list of items that are needed. Hopefully we can all work together and donate a ton of items this year alone to these organizations.

For the month of January and February, we will be helping a local organization called Turning Point. Turning Point is located in Tuscaloosa, AL and is a center for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Turning Point offers temporary housing for these ladies and children, they have a 24 hour crisis hot line, and they offer counseling and support groups as well.

Turning Point is in need of the following items:

• Non-Perishable Grocery Items
• Ladies Personal Items (Shampoo, Conditioner, Soap, Tampons, Etc.)
• Bedding and Bath Items (Sheets, Towels, Etc.)
• **Travel Size Items will be great as well**
  
  We will be collecting these items until the 20th of February. Once items are collected, a picture of all items donated will be taken and posted on the website. Items will then be delivered to Turning Point at the end of February.

Coupon Class Schedule

Here is an updated Coupon Class schedule for the next few months. Please email me at (southernsavings@aol.com or tlc1982@aol.com) if you are interested in attending one of them. Classes are $10 per person and include a packet of information and door prizes. All classes usually last about 2 hours.

All classes in Blue are private classes.

2011 Budget Totals

Starting in 2011, I will be working on a new feature on the website. I will be keeping track online, my monthly spending and savings per month. I encourage you all to do the same and to email me your monthly reports every month so that we can keep a running total of everyone’s spending and savings on the website. Publix Policy Change!!!!

Starting Jan. 1, 2011, Publix will only accept Target and other grocery store competitor coupons. They will no longer accept drug store coupons (Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS) or Dollar General and Family Dollar Coupons. For more information, contact your local Publix store. Thanks!

Christmas Frugal Ideas

Here are a few ideas that some of my readers emailed me a few weeks ago for some frugal Christmas gift ideas. I love all the ideas and thanks to everyone who emailed me!!

1. Soap Making (Thanks Amber!)

All you need is glycerin, some type of mold and a scent to give the soap fragrance. Food coloring can also be used to color the soap. Glycerin can be purchase at all craft stores and is melted in the microwave. Add scent and/or color and then pour into mold. Allow time for the soap to harden and pop out of the mold. Then you can package it in a creative way!

2. Pasta Baskets (Thanks Miranda!)

Buy spaghetti sauces and pasta with coupons. Put three jars of spaghetti sauce, three boxes of pasta in a basket with a can of parmesan cheese and maybe a dish towel or two.

3. Make Bread (Thanks Allie!)

Make your own bread and wrap either in a Christmas dish towel or put on a decorative plate.
