Meal Planning

I have so many people ask how I plan out our monthly meals and go grocery shopping. So here it is, the answer to all of your questions:

1. I first make a list of 30 + meals for the month.
2. Then I write down everything that I need for those meals.
3. Next, I check out the pantry and freezer at home and cross off everything that we have at home. This usually ends up leaving me about 1/2 of the items that I need for the month.
4. Then I check the sales for each week and only buy what is on sale each week + items for my stockpile (usually items that are $0.50 are cheaper).

I will be posting soon a meal list for next month to give you an idea on how to start this process. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Publix Weekly Meal Planner

Head over to Once Upon a Coupon to see her weekly meal plan matched up to the Publix weekly ad.

Meal Planning Information

I've had so many people ask in my coupon classes how I can buy a weeks worth of groceries for around $40 or $50 per week. One of my main tips that I give people is to come up with a weekly menu plan. Here is ours for the next week:

(We have swimming lessons at night every night next week and Chris will be leading worship at a revival, so all of the meals for this week are going to be simple and quick!)

**All lunches will be leftovers or sandwiches**

Sunday -- Roast, Carrots, Mashed Potatoes, Stewed Squash, Fried Okra and Rolls (Lunch)
Frozen Pizza (Dinner)
Tuesday -- Pizza Pasta Toss
Friday -- Out to Eat
Saturday -- Out of Town

From the meals above here are the groceries that I will need:
1 onion
1 green bell pepper
1 28 oz. can green enchilada sauce
1 can of black beans
1 packet dry Italian seasoning
Roast Beef Deli Meat
Hoggie Rolls
Tortilla Chips
Sandwich Bread and Deli Meat (lunches)

All other items that I need are already in my pantry from stockpiling items when they are on sale. Anything left in my budget will go toward building my stockpile and buying items that I need for the next few weeks that are on sale.

April Menu Plan

I've had alot of readers ask about making meal plans, so I figured I would let you all see what our meal plan is for April. Meal plans tend to save you a ton of money because you don't have to run to the store at the last minute to buy items that you need for supper and you also won't be running through the drive thur of a restaurant because you can't decide what to fix for dinner. I always usually try to use products that we already have at home and usually we only have to buy produce, meat and dairy once a week + any items that I want to stockpile.

Here is a look at our meal plan for April. (If you are interested in any recipes, please e-mail me at southernsavings@aol.com)

We try to eat every meal at home during the week. We usually grab dinner on Friday nights or Saturdays, however I'll go ahead and think of a quick meal even for those nights in case we stay home. We usually eat out on Saturdays and on Sundays nights.
